Are you struggling to figure out your niche? Well, I just want to reassure that is a very common state for newer stage entrepreneurs to be struggling with, and it does take some time.
Tricks to Help You Find Your Niche
But, after years and years of coaching people to find their niche, I do have a couple of little tricks and they might help you find your niche. So I’m going to give you five niche clues today, and then we’re going to do a deep dive on one of them.
5 Niche Clues
Here are the five niche clues. These are little tools you can use to help you figure out exactly what your niche for your new business should be.
- Capitalize on your Plus Factors.
- Combine two separate areas on the Wheel of Life.
- Shift the focus of what you’re already doing fifteen degrees to the right.
- Look at what’s already working in the marketplace—this is crazy powerful.
- Identify and use your genius zone.
I am going to do a deep dive on these over the next few weeks, starting with the first one, “Plus Factors” today.
Plus Factors are very helpful clues in figuring out what your niche should be. The art of using plus factors really means, by the time you get to any adult age, you will have accumulated multiple skills, interests, hobbies, and experience in your life, and it’s really to take those things you’re already good at and capitalize on them.
Starting a business from scratch with no skill is hard. We live in a competitive world.
True Client Story
Let me try and give you an example—and this is a true story of one of my clients.
This client was a chiropractor, and as you know, there are a gazillion chiropractors out there! So he was really looking to narrow down and fine tune his niche. It turned out that he had been a pro-athlete in his prime; so in his past he had this “plus factor” experience… he was a pro-athlete. Plus Factor #1. So we actually narrowed it down so that he would only do chiropractic work with pro-athletes.
He dug down a little bit further and it turned out that he actually had half a sports management degree. In addition, he had suffered awfully from allergies all his life, such profound allergies, that something had to be done. He ended up being cured by gluten free, dairy free diets. This meant that over the course of his life he’d acquired a lot of knowledge on these low-inflammatory diets. There was Plus Factor #2. So not only could he be a chiropractor specializing in pro athletes, but particularly in holistic care of pro athletes, very clean, low-inflammation diets as well.
Capitalizing and niching down to pro-athletes interested in optimum holistic methods to attain peak performance made him quite a specialist in his field! He almost tripled his list of clients in under 6 months.
So as you can see, it can be very powerful to simply go and look at the skills that you have in your past and see if you can use them to sharpen or find the niche that you’re working on.
